Ideas in Action: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Common Good
Wednesday, April 5
3:15 - 5:15 PM

Issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion feature prominently in today’s political climate. What’s more, the American population will look radically different in the coming decades -- and so will our workforce and the communities we serve. Now and for the future, charitable organizations must embrace the need to become more diverse, equitable, and inclusive if we are to live up to our missions to provide for the common good.

Join Independent Sector and a panel of national thought leaders and practitioners to explore how organizations are successfully leading these efforts, including an honest assessment of the challenges they’ve faced. This session will draw on Independent Sector’s new “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” focus area, launched in August 2016 in partnership with ProInspire, as well as case studies and stories from the front lines of DEI work, to empower participants to move from intention to action around this societal and organizational imperative.

This impact session will inspire participants and empower them to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in their organizations by:

  •  Hosting a conversation with national thought leaders about what organizations are doing to successfully lead diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts internally
  •  Providing specific examples/case studies to highlight successes and challenges in doing this work
  •  Defining actionable next steps for making progress on DEI efforts

This panel is moderated by Monisha Kapila, ProInspire.
Panelists include Stephen Bennett, Caravanserai Project, Nonet Sykes, The Annie E. Casey Foundation, and Ayanna Parris, Year Up.
